Tools of the Trade (Free Resources)

Securing your organisation doesn't have to bankrupt your mission. There are incredible resources available specifically for charities and non-profits that are either free or heavily discounted.

The Toolkit

  1. NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre)

    • What is it? The UK Government’s advice hub.

    • Best Tool: "Exercise in a Box." A free online tool that simulates a cyber attack (like a fire drill) to help you test your response.

    • Cost: Free.

  2. Charity Digital / TechSoup

    • What is it? These platforms partner with big tech companies to donate software to charities.

    • Best Offer: You can often get Bitdefender or Norton antivirus for a fraction of the retail price (sometimes just an admin fee). You can also access discounted Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace tiers.

    • Cost: Small admin fees (savings of 90%+).

  3. Bitwarden

    • What is it? A Password Manager. It remembers your complex passwords so you don't have to.

    • Best Feature: "Send" feature allows you to securely share a password with a colleague without emailing it in plain text.

    • Cost: Free plan is excellent for individuals; very cheap for teams.

  4. Have I Been Pwned?

    • What is it? A website where you enter your email address to see if your password has been stolen in a previous data breach.

    • Cost: Free.

  5. Quad9 (DNS Protection)

    • What is it? A technical setting that blocks your computer from loading known malicious websites.

    • Best Feature: It works in the background without you noticing.

    • Cost: Free.

Your “Easy Win” for Today
